Bravest Honor on of
the Finest... |
|

|
|
Local resident, William J. Ward was honored by the Kings Park Fire
Department for his heroic lifesaving efforts. It all started
just past midnight, on the morning of August 25, 2003. William, with
his brother and two children were returning home from a day out on
their sailboat when William noticed someone clinging to a submerged
canoe at the mouth of the Nissequoge River. Without a second thought
he reached to bring the victim aboard his own vessel.
Unfortunately, the rough choppy waters made
it impossible for the victim to board. The attempt failed and the
strong currents carried the victim out toward the sound, to a
near-certain death. William's first instinct was to grab his cell
and summon help via 911. Then, without hesitation, jeopardizing his
own life, he heroically jumped into the river. With a life jacket in
hand he managed to pull the victim to a nearby buoy where both
men were eventually retrieved.
Awesome
Story...Ultimate Hero!.. |

The holiday season would not be complete without the Kings Park Fire
Department's Santa Parade. On hand were the usual cast of
characters... The Grinch, Frosty, Rudolph, Mouse, Bear, Mrs. Claus,
the elves and of course the big guy, Santa. Notably missing was
Gingerbread Man. My daughter observantly noted he was also absent
last year. I told her, I heard he was afraid of the Grinch and tired
of Rudolf nibbling at his ears, so he retired.
It was nice to the crowd and all the children. Each year the
group seems to out do themselves. This year the department used the
parade to collect food and household items for the needy. And, once
more the community came through, with flying colors. What a great
way to bring a everyone together!
SUPER JOB!... FROM SUPER PEOPLE! |

Breakfast Anyone?
|
 |
|
The weather outside was frightful, but the pancakes inside were
delightful. The Parkview Crew does it again... another
successful pancake breakfast with Santa. Rumor always had it that
the hot cakes were good. This year the local residents confirmed the
buzz as many flocked the RJO cafeteria in the middle of a snow
storm, just to set their forks into some of those special hot cakes.
After all they were made by the best!
GREAT JOB!.... |

Proposed LIRR Maintenance Center
Pending.
There are three locations which
are being proposed: the KPPC Hospital property where the trains once ran, the area behind St.
Catherine's Hospital and the Townline & Old Northport Road area.
Meetings were held with strong opposition from all
surrounding communities. Councilwoman Joanne Gray has requested
documents, under the Freedom of Information Act, concerning the
locations which have been deemed fatally flawed. Pursuant the law, the
MTA must respond to her FOIL request within 180 days. Since the deadline
for public comment is quickly approaching you can be sure they will
provide the information after the deadline, but before the 180th day.
