BICYCLE SAFETY RODEO AND
FINGERPRINTING PROGRAM |

Michael Fitzpatrick
Press Release |
|
State Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick will host a bicycle safety
rodeo and emergency child identification record fingerprinting
session from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 24 in the parking lot of
the Nesconset Plaza, 127-20 Smithtown Blvd., Smithtown. “With the
onset of summer vacation and longer days, more children will be
riding their bicycles. This is a good opportunity for parents and
children to learn about bicycle safety so they can enjoy riding
their bicycles safely this summer,” said Assemblyman Fitzpatrick.
Police officers from the Suffolk County Police
Department’s 4th Precinct and the Police Athletic League
will conduct bicycle safety seminars and fingerprint children for
their emergency identification brochures. The completed brochures
become comprehensive records of children’s identification should
they be lost or experience dire circumstances. Police officers will
discuss with the children and their parents the need for bicycle
helmets, how a bicycle helmet protects the rider, the state and
local bicycle helmet safety laws, and choosing the correct helmet.
Informative brochures
regarding bicycle safety and the New York state helmet law will be
distributed at the rodeo. The brochures are also available to
constituents at Assemblyman Fitzpatrick’s district office at 50
Route 111, Suite 202, Smithtown. Due to the limited time,
appointments for fingerprinting are suggested. Please call
Assemblyman Fitzpatrick’s district office at (631) 724-2929 to
schedule an appointment. |

Batter UP! |

It was an overcast day at the ENCG
Station for the Kings Park "Sunday Suds" as they were whipped by the
Eatons Neck "Coasties" 8 to 6 . Ed Dumala, a KP resident and Kings
Park CSD employee organized an ad hoc softball team comprised of
local youth athletes Alyssa Wagner and Charlie Laparo and KPCSD
coworkers including Mike Rizzi, Keith Dubay and Andrew Matlach.
Kings Park's Sunday Suds gave it their all, but were overtaken. The
day was not a total loss, FS2 Anthony Lepre (Medford LI) and Coast
Guard pitcher also doubled as the team's cook and delivered on the
grub, cooking up some BBQ Chicken, burgers and dogs. Everyone had a
great time. A re-match is tentatively slatted for August 4th. |

Town of Ada Librarians
|
Over a hundred years ago the
small town of Ada, Ohio had a general store. In their store accounts
were maintained for local businesses and residents. About ten years
ago, some of the ledgers used in the late 1800's made their way to
the Kings Park Heritage Museum; they were donated by Mr. Joe
Famighetti, Director of Operations at the Vanderbilt Museum. Through
the years Mr. Famighetti acquired hundreds of hand written
ledgers like these from his many journeys across the country. This
summer, Dr. George Tiernan, Ken Kraska and Leo P. Ostebo stopped in
Ada Ohio to visit the town's historical society. On this trip they
returned these ledgers to the society which is located in the town's
library. There to accept the ledgers was the Mayor of Ada, Honorable
David Retterer. The ledgers are now on display just in time for the
town's 150 anniversary celebration.

The Kings Park Heritage Museum recently entertained a special
visitor. . With no fanfare at all, just a sincere interest in
viewing a unique educational program, Rep. Tim Bishop stopped in for
a visit. While there the Congressman met with the museum's trustees.
Later he strolled down memory lane as he viewed the
gallery. "It's like stepping back in time" he confessed as he
recalled using some of the items which were on display.
The visit was a bolt from the blue for two of Kings
Park High School students, Mike Szalay and Debra Sewell, who intern
at the museum. During his visit the Congressman discussed with the
youths their college plans and potential career paths.
It just goes to show... you never know who you will run
into in our little town of Kings Park. |
