The morning
began with the sun brightly shinning down upon the hamlet of Kings
Park but, by the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh
month, the sun faded creating a solemn backdrop for the anniversary
remembrance. In attendance were local veteran groups, religious and
civic organizations sprinkled with a few politicians. Boy Scouts
proudly carried their campaign banners and marched with crowd in
rhythm behind the school's band. Upon reaching Veterans' Square the
Kings Park High School Chorale Group added warmth with their
soothing voices. Once fully assembled all listened intently as thank
yous were given to those who served and prayers for a safe return
offered to those currently in harms way. It was a fitting tribute
offered by a small town with big hearts.

Mix one very
intelligent custodian with an eclectic group of high school students
with time on their hands and you have an extremely productive
club. The Tech Club was established to handle all technical issues
involved in producing theatre and related events. Custodian Rick
Holmes put his college and life experiences to good use by training
students to operate, maintain, and fix Kings Park School District's
audio, visual and lighting duties. With no expense to the taxpayers
the group has upgraded, restored and innovated the equipment of all
the school facilities.
Awesome Work !

This week I visited Miss
Rehor's second grade class at the Fort Salonga School. I was invited
by my daughter to participate in their "Community Helper" project,
and to speak to her classmates about my job. What a
GREAT time I had. It was wonderful to meet and share
my experiences with these high energy and eager to learn seven year
olds. I must admit I was a bit intimidated at first, but once they
started their interview these little professionals made me feel
right at home.
Part of my
presentation included showing them my website. I explained how I
gathered information about our community, its activities and people.
While viewing the web pages many children recognized some of the
people and events I covered. One student was excited and beamed with
pride when she saw a picture of her Dad on the home page.
Looking to see a demonstration of their talents I
gave them the opportunity to write their own "by line". They were
thrilled to participate in the project and I was amazed at the work
they submitted. Please take a moment to view their efforts. I am
sure you will enjoy their thoughts and creativity as much as I did.

A new look for Main
Street... The building which has be left vacant for too many years,
on the corner of Main & Church Streets will soon be occupied by a
new establishment called "The Coffee Beanery Cafe". It will offer a
variety of gourmet coffees and treats.

Another new look for Indian Head Road... The old Shell station which
closed believe it or not a few years ago will re-open as a Hess
station with a mini mart. Construction is currently in progress...

Each year, the Saturday
before Thanksgiving, local students along with school district staff
and area residents
muster up and participate in the district's "Stuff A
Bus" fund raiser. The program places the volunteers at local
supermarkets to gather food and contributions from shoppers to help
feed needy area residents. The buses are loaded up, until they are
"STUFFED"! At days end the food is brought back to the RJO building
where it is sorted and package for distribution. Any surplus is
stored and dispersed when needed.
What a great effort from the entire community!
JOB
WELL DONE ....GREAT WORK !
