Celebrating The Festival

By Ken Kraska

This past week, members of the Kings Park Jewish Center along with local officials which included State Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio and Town Council member Joanne Gray, gathered to celebrate the menorah lighting on the library lawn. Chanukah, the Festival of Lights is a celebration commemorating the victory of the Maccabees, the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple and the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days.

With the setting sun, the town supervisor aided by the children in attendance, ceremoniously lit the first holiday candle. As Rabbi Sternstein addressed the adults in his congregation, sharing his thoughts about the holiday and its meaning, the children sat attentively and some kept occupied with their newly acquired dreidels.
After the ceremony at the library, the group journeyed to the fire house where they lit the menorah there.

Happy Holidays!

Oh The Lights...

By Ken Kraska

As the sun set on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Kings Park, local residents gathered on the library's front lawn to witness the lighting of the hamlet's Christmas Tree. Among the crowd celebrating the occasion were NY State Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick and Town Council members Joanne Gray and Jane Conway.

Brining good cheer were students from the district who, with their warm and inspiring voices entertained the group with some holidays carols.

After the tree was illuminated, sirens could be heard in the distance. Whispers amongst the town folk were rumors that jolly ol' Santa was on his way. Then, within moments a vintage '26 American Lafrance rounded Church Street's corner; on board was Santa and some of his elves. As the children realized who had arrived they darted over to greet him. With candy canes in hand he welcomed all with a big ho ho.

And the smiles tell the rest of the story....

.                             Happy Holidays to all of Kings Park !
